Bhutan or “Drukyul” the local name means - the Land of Thunder Dragon. This is now the last Shangri-la protected by the mighty Himalayas and Tibet in the north, Sikkim in the west and India in the eastern and southern frontiers. Bhutan is as big as Switzerland, but sparsely populated. The snowy mountains of Bhutan are truly magnificent while in the south lies amazingly dense forests of tropical nature. The Drukpa Kagyu School of Mahayana Buddhism forms the essence of the Bhutanese way of life.
The uniqueness of Bhutan is the fact that its culture and environment have been largely attributed to natural breathtaking scenic beauty, sacred virgin mountains, holy lakes, historic ancient fortresses, imposing architecture, superb arts, small population growth rate, controlled tourism and virtually zero crime. All these factors makes Bhutan one of the few privileged countries that can be declared truly SAFE for every traveler.
